Cleaning Your Jewelry

Caring For Your Diamonds and Jewelry:
Diamonds are the hardest know substance on earth. They uniquely are resistant to damage by scratching and heat, and can be cut or polished only by another diamond – but it is a fact that though they are the hardest known substance, they can still chip and crack. With care and protectiveness of your setting your diamond should last many lifetimes. Exposure to ordinary wear and tear such as cleaning products, like chlorine and hairspray, can cause a build up of film on your diamond surface which would make the diamond dull and lifeless. We suggest taking off your jewelry before working with these products.
Things You’ll Need:
* Dishwashing Liquid
* Toothbrushes
* Small Bowls
* Paper Towels

Soapy Solution
  1. Take a small bowl and mix a small amount of mild dish detergent with warm water until sudsy.
  2. Dip the item to be cleaned into the solution.
  3. Dip a soft toothbrush into the cleaning solution, and gently brush the item.
  4. Rinse in warm running water.
  5. Pat dry with a soft, lint-freecloth.
Ammonia Solution
  1. Take a small bowl and mix a solution of 6 parts water to 1 part ammonia.
  2. Dip the item to be cleaned into the solution.
  3. Dip a soft toothbrush into the cleaning solution, and gently brush the item.
  4. Pay special attention to the backs of stones and their mountings, areas that tend to collect dirt and oils.
  5. Rinse in warm running water.
  6. Pat dry with a soft lint-free cloth.
Tips & Warnings

     * Don't be too aggressive when brushing your jewelry. Though diamonds are hard, the material in which they're set may not be. Gold and silver could be scratched if brushed too hard.
     * For especially soiled diamonds, mix a solution of half cold water and half ammonia in a small bowl. Let the item soak in the solution for 30 minutes, then gently brush the item with a soft toothbrush. Rinse in warm running water and allow the item to air dry on paper towels.
     * Be sure to use the ammonia and ammonia-water solution only in a well-ventilated area, and avoid inhaling the ammonia solution directly.
Cleaning Your Diamonds:
The best way to clean your diamond is always to take your diamond to a jeweler where they can professionally clean your ring to give it the sparkle and dazzle as when it was first purchased. If that is not an option, home cleaning works just as well. Boiling a pot of hot water you place your ring and or jewelry in the water letting it sit for a few minutes to loosen the dirt. Then remove the ring with a pair of tongs (never touch with your open hand) taking a toothbrush and mild soap (dove, dial) scrub your jewelry in every crevice. Once complete place jewelry back in the pot for a moment, removing again with tongs, rinse your ring with cold water. Using an everyday hair dryer just blow the ring dry. The heat causes the steam affect that professional use to a smaller extent. Your jewelry is now clean, remember even from your finger your diamond will get dirty, diamonds adhere to oils in your body to give the diamonds a murky milky affect.

You can carefully boil water and use the steam to loosen dirt and buildup.

Storing Your Diamond Jewelry:
We recommend that all diamond jewelry is stored individually in soft cloth pouches or jewelry boxes when not worn, this helps to prevent your diamond or diamonds from scratching or dulling other jewelry.
